More Snow?? BOOO!
Ok, this has got to stop. I am officially sick of the snow! It is not even February yet and the Tri-state area is breaking snow fall totals! According to WABC's Bill Evans, the old record for the month of January in Central Park was 27.4 inches which was set back in 1925. The 19 inches that fell overnight brought the total in the park to a whopping 36 inches so far this month! Additionally, the snowiest month ever at this location occurred last February, with 36.9 inches. But you know what they say about records, they are meant to be broken!
However, at times the snow can be fun. Sledding, making snowmen (and women), snowball fights, making igloos, the list goes on and on. But for a seasoned runner who does not let bad weather stop them from training, the snow and ice can be extremely dangerous. A slip and fall on patch of black ice could possibly mean the end of their running career, or at least for a while. I guess running in snow boots could be an option, but not only would that be quite uncomfortable after a while, but boots are not always going to stop you from slipping on the ice. My suggestion? YAKTRAX!! A scaled down version of a mountain climber's crampons, Yaktrax are a runner's best friend on the snow and ice. Their spikeless, coil design, will give any runner (or walker) the confidence and peace of mind needed when training in icy weather. They come in sizes small, medium, large, and extra large, and slip right over any running sneaker!
